The Rhode Island Motorcycle Association, established in 1974, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting the rights and safety of motorcycle riders through education, safety programs, and legislation. The association has collaborated with state officials and the Rhode Island Department of Transportation to promote the interests of motorcyclists. Despite motorcycles being an economical form of transportation and constituting only 3% of all registered vehicles, riders face a disproportionately high risk of fatal accidents, with motorcyclists being 28 times more likely to die in a crash than car occupants.

Recognizing the importance of motorcycle safety and the need for increased public awareness, the House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island has resolved to declare May of 2024 as "Motorcycle Awareness Month." This resolution also celebrates the 50th Anniversary of the Rhode Island Motorcycle Association and calls on all motorists to practice safe, undistracted driving. The Secretary of State is directed to send a certified copy of this resolution to the Rhode Island Motorcycle Association.
