The resolution acknowledges the importance of Rhode Island's youth in shaping a promising future and recognizes the role of the Boys & Girls Clubs in fostering the development of young people across the state. The clubs, located in various communities including East Providence, Pawtucket, Providence, Newport County, Northern Rhode Island, and Warwick, provide essential programs that support homework help, workforce readiness, health and wellness, substance abuse prevention, and recreation. These programs aim to empower young individuals to become productive, caring, and responsible citizens.
The resolution also celebrates the Boys & Girls Clubs of America Youth of the Year program, which has been honoring exemplary Club members since 1947. The program emphasizes service, academic success, moral character, and life goals, preparing participants for leadership in a diverse and interconnected world economy. Six outstanding youths from Rhode Island's Boys & Girls Clubs have been recognized for their achievements and representation of the state's youth. Consequently, the House of Representatives of Rhode Island designates May 1, 2024, as "Boys & Girls Clubs Youth of the Year Day" and encourages all citizens to acknowledge these young individuals' accomplishments. The Secretary of State is directed to send a certified copy of the resolution to the Rhode Island Alliance of Boys & Girls Clubs.
