WaterFire Providence, a nonprofit arts organization, has significantly contributed to the cultural and economic vitality of Providence, Rhode Island, over the past 30 years. The organization's signature event, WaterFire, is a free public experience that features bonfires along the downtown rivers, accompanied by music, performances, and vendors. This event has not only revitalized the city's nightlife but also attracts nearly one million visitors annually, boosting tourism, filling hotels and restaurants, and supporting local jobs. An economic report highlights that WaterFire generates an annual economic output of over $151 million, contributes more than $11 million in direct tax revenue to the state, and supports around 1,300 jobs.

In addition to its flagship event, WaterFire Providence has rehabilitated a historic property into a multi-use arts venue, the WaterFire Arts Center, and has initiated programs to support young BIPOC community members and artists under thirty. Recognizing the organization's impact, the resolution proposes an appropriation of $750,000 from the state treasury to provide operational support for WaterFire Providence for the fiscal year 2024-2025. This funding is intended to help sustain the organization's contributions to the community and the state's creative economy.
