The bill amends the "Residential Landlord and Tenant Act" by adding a new section that prohibits landlords or their agents from making inquiries about the immigration or citizenship status of tenants, prospective tenants, occupants, or prospective occupants of residential rental property. It also prevents landlords from requiring individuals to make any statements or certifications concerning their immigration or citizenship status. Additionally, the bill restricts municipalities and housing agencies from compelling landlords to gather, disclose, or act upon the immigration or citizenship status of individuals in relation to residential rental property.

The bill, however, does not prohibit landlords from complying with federal legal obligations or from requesting information necessary to verify the financial qualifications or identity of prospective tenants or occupants. The act is designed to protect the privacy and rights of individuals seeking housing, without impeding the landlord's ability to fulfill legal requirements or assess the financial reliability of tenants. The bill will become effective immediately upon passage.
