This bill amends Section 12-12-17 of the General Laws to establish a 10-year statute of limitations for the violation of second-degree sexual assault. Currently, there is no statute of limitations for certain offenses, including treason, homicide, arson, burglary, forgery, and rape, among others. The bill also establishes a 3-year statute of limitations for any other criminal offense, unless a longer statute of limitations is provided for in the general laws. Additionally, the bill provides a 7-year statute of limitations for certain environmental offenses, such as refuse disposal and water pollution. This act would take effect upon passage.
