Brian Allen, a native of Burrillville and the Assistant Wrestling Coach at Johnson and Wales University, is set to be inducted into the National Collegiate Wrestling Hall of Fame in July 2023. His induction comes after receiving 71 percent of the votes from the Coaches’ Association, securing the necessary majority on his first ballot. Coach Allen's career is decorated with multiple hall of fame inductions, including the Burrillville Sports Hall of Fame, the Rhode Island College Athletic Hall of Fame, and the New England Conference College Wrestling Association Hall of Fame. He has also been recognized as the National Assistant Coach of the Year twice and the Regional Assistant Coach of the Year six times.
Coach Allen's wrestling career began in high school, where he was a New England champion, and continued through college, where he was an NCAA All-American twice and a New England champion for four years. His coaching career started in Burrillville and included a brief period at Rhode Island College before he joined Johnson and Wales University, where he has been for 26 years. Under the leadership of Coach Allen and Head Coach Lonnie Morris, Johnson and Wales has become one of the nation's elite wrestling programs. In recognition of his achievements, the Senate of the State of Rhode Island has resolved to congratulate Coach Allen on his induction into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame and has directed the Secretary of State to transmit a certified copy of this resolution to him.
