Father Andrew George, born and raised in Monessen, Pennsylvania, has been an active member of the Orthodox Church community since 1965, participating in summer camp programs, serving as Assistant Director at the Ionian Village in Greece, and working in various capacities within the church, including as a lay assistant and youth coordinator in Toledo, Ohio. He was ordained to the diaconate in 1977 and later began his service at the Church of the Annunciation in Cranston in 1983. Over the next four decades, Fr. George demonstrated exceptional leadership and administrative skills, contributing to the expansion and improvement of the church facilities and overseeing significant celebrations such as the church's centennial in 2005 and its 50th anniversary in 2018.
The resolution acknowledges Fr. George's dedication to God, his parish, and his family, including his late wife Presvytera Maria, his children, and grandchildren. His life's work has enriched the spiritual lives of many Rhode Islanders, earning him widespread respect and admiration. The House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island honors Fr. George for his forty years of faithful service to the Church of the Annunciation, wishing him good health and continued service. The resolution also directs the Secretary of State to provide Fr. George with a certified copy of the resolution as a token of appreciation and recognition.
