The House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island has expressed profound sorrow over the passing of the Honorable M. Theresa Santos, a dedicated public servant and member of the Middletown Town Council. Theresa Santos, who began her career in public service at Middletown Town Hall over 57 years ago, was recognized for her meticulous work ethic, innovative problem-solving, and unwavering integrity. She served as the Middletown Finance Director until her retirement in 1990 and later returned to public service as a councilwoman in 2000, where she remained until her passing. Her commitment to fiscal responsibility, community improvement, and advocacy for senior citizens and marginalized individuals left a lasting impact on Middletown.

Councilwoman Santos was also known for her sharp wit, love for basketball, particularly the Boston Celtics, and her affection for dogs, especially Boxers. She prioritized her family above all else. Middletown Town Administrator Shawn J. Brown praised her for setting high standards and making Middletown a better place to live, work, and play. The resolution conveys the House's deepest condolences to her family and directs the Secretary of State to transmit certified copies of the resolution to her sons, Michael Santos and William Santos, and their families.
