The House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island has expressed its deep sorrow upon learning of the death of William McKenney, III. He was the eldest son of the late Dr. William and Mary McKenney, and brother to Dr. Paul McKenney, the Honorable Mark McKenney, Esq., Maryjo Covey, RN, and Ann Marie DeMontigny. William, also known as Bill, was a cherished uncle to many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews, and he had numerous cousins and friends.
Bill McKenney was born in Washington, D.C., and after moving to Rhode Island, he graduated from Bishop Hendricken High School and earned a Bachelor's degree in Music Education from Ithaca College. He served as Music Director at Hendricken from 1975 to 1980, leading the school to wide acclaim and performances, including at the 1977 Inauguration Parade in Washington, D.C. He later pursued a Master’s degree in Musicology at Catholic University of America and worked in the wine industry. Bill was known for his altruistic endeavors and advocacy for worthy causes. The resolution concludes with the House extending its deepest condolences to the McKenney family and directing the Secretary of State to transmit certified copies of the resolution to the family members.
