Rose Island is an 18-acre island in Newport Harbor, Narragansett Bay, which has been preserved for conservation. In 1999, the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (DEM) helped the Rose Island Lighthouse and Fort Hamilton Trust (RILFHT) purchase part of the island to prevent development and establish the Rose Island Wildlife Refuge. The island, now an accredited arboretum, is home to various bird species and features the historic Rose Island Lighthouse, restored and relit in 1993, which is open to the public as a living museum and educational retreat.

The Rhode Island House of Representatives is celebrating the 30th anniversary of the lighthouse's restoration and honors the RILFHT for its dedication to maintaining the maritime landmark and its environmental stewardship of the wildlife refuge. The resolution acknowledges the Trust's efforts in providing educational experiences and rustic overnight accommodations that allow visitors to experience life without modern conveniences. The House encourages Rhode Islanders to support the Trust's charity license plate drive and learn more about the island, directing the Secretary of State to send a certified copy of the resolution to the RILFHT.
