This resolution honors and commends Meghan Hughes, Ph.D., for her service as the President of the Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI), where she became the first female president in 2016. CCRI, the largest community college in New England, has been dedicated to providing educational opportunities for both recent high school graduates and returning adults. Dr. Hughes, a Yale University and New York University alumna, brought over thirty years of experience in higher education and the nonprofit sector to her role at CCRI. During her tenure, she focused on strategic plans aimed at student success and closing equity performance gaps, leading to the highest graduation rate in eighteen years at CCRI.
The resolution acknowledges Dr. Hughes' numerous accolades, including the “Trailblazer in Education” award and the “Outstanding Woman of the Year” by U.S. Representative David Cicilline. It also notes her active participation on various boards and commissions, such as the Rhode Island Foundation and the Governor’s Skills Cabinet. The resolution recognizes that while Dr. Hughes is retiring after seven and a half years of service, her legacy will continue to inspire educational leaders. The House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island expresses gratitude for her contributions and extends best wishes for her future endeavors. The Secretary of State is directed to transmit a certified copy of this resolution to Dr. Hughes.
