The bill amends Section 3-6-15 of the General Laws in Chapter 3-6, which is titled "Manufacturing and Wholesale Licenses." The amendment expands the existing prohibition on manufacturers of distilled spirits or wines whose principal place of manufacture is outside of the state from holding a wholesaler's license or having any interest in a wholesaler's license. The new language broadens this prohibition to include all manufacturers of alcoholic beverages, regardless of where their principal place of manufacture is located.
The bill specifies that no manufacturer of alcoholic beverages can have any direct or indirect interest in a wholesaler's license. This includes ownership, part ownership, interests through subsidiaries or affiliates, or relationships involving officers, directors, employees, stock ownership, interlocking directorates, trusteeship, loans, mortgages, or any form of financial backing or guarantee of a wholesaler's obligations. The act is set to take effect immediately upon passage.
