This bill, titled "Prohibition on the Use of Police Robot Technology," would amend Title 42 of the General Laws by adding a new chapter. The new chapter would define terms such as "law enforcement officer," "police robot dog," "robot," "UAVs," and "unmanned aerial vehicles." It would also prohibit law enforcement officers from authorizing the use of armed robots, police robot dogs, or UAVs armed with weapons while carrying out their duties, both on-duty and off-duty. However, there are exceptions for using armed robots to mitigate explosives-related incidents or breach barricades. Additionally, the bill would prohibit any department employing peace officers from receiving or accepting public or private funding for the purchase or procurement of police robot dogs. The bill would take effect upon passage.
