The Brain Injury Association of Rhode Island (BIARI) is a nonprofit organization established in 1983 with the mission to prevent brain injuries and support survivors and caregivers through public awareness, information dissemination, education, and enhancing the effectiveness of related service providers. The organization addresses the needs arising from the 1.6 million Americans who sustain traumatic brain injuries each year.
A joint resolution has been proposed to allocate $200,000 from the treasury (not otherwise appropriated) for the fiscal year 2023-2024 to BIARI. This funding is intended to assist BIARI in its efforts to prevent brain injuries and increase public awareness about the issue. The state controller is authorized to issue payment of this sum upon receipt of properly authenticated vouchers. The legislative council has provided an explanation for this resolution, clarifying the purpose of the appropriation to BIARI.
