This bill, if enacted, would amend Chapter 31-28 of the General Laws entitled "Parking Facilities and Privileges" to require the installation of designated electric vehicle (EV) parking spaces with charging capabilities. The bill defines terms related to EV charging stations and establishes requirements for different types of parking lots, including commercial, municipal, large employer, and housing parking lots. The bill also outlines the number of required EV spaces based on the total number of parking spaces provided. Violations of EV parking restrictions would be enforced and subject to penalties. The bill also requires the Office of Energy Resources to provide recommendations to improve EV charging infrastructure in underserved communities and for municipalities to provide reports on installed public charging stations. The provisions of this bill would only apply to new projects awarded after January 1, 2024, that receive public funding. The bill would take effect on July 1, 2023.
