SENATE RESOLUTION
CONGRATULATING THE ELEANOR SLATER HOSPITAL/ZAMBARANO UNIT ON THE
RECOGNITION OF "ZAMBARANO DAY" ON JUNE 14, 2022

1 WHEREAS, Since 1905, the Eleanor Slater Hospital/Zambarano has been serving the
2 citizens of the State of Rhode Island. It was previously called the Dr. U. E. Zambarano Hospital
3 in tribute to its superintendent. Since its inception, the Zambarano Hospital has furnished crucial
4 health care for many Rhode Islanders; and
5 WHEREAS, This excellent facility also provides outstanding health care services to those
6 Rhode Islanders who are in the greatest need, including geriatric patients, patients with
7 developmental disabilities, patients with Alzheimer's disease, and those with spinal cord injuries;
8 and
9 WHEREAS, Eleanor Slater Hospital/Zambarano Unit serves as an optimal model for all
10 long-term care facilities; and
11 WHEREAS, Since its first meeting on May 18, 1979, the patients have been involved in
12 an organized group, "Patients for Progress." The group is dedicated to promoting superior care for
13 all individuals at our state hospitals; and
14 WHEREAS, The staff at Zambarano works tirelessly to ensure a quality existence for all
15 patients, and also works to convey the creditable and commendable work that goes on each and
16 every day at the hospital; now, therefore be it
17 RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island hereby recognizes
18 "Zambarano Day" on June 14, 2022, and extends its sincere congratulations to the staff of the
19 Eleanor Slater Hospital/Zambarano Unit and expresses its deep appreciation for the continuation
1 of their laudable efforts on behalf of all long-term care patients; and be it further
2 RESOLVED, That this Senate hereby declares its continuing support to ensure the
3 Eleanor Slater Hospital/Zambarano Unit remains an exemplary long-term health care facility for
4 the benefit of all Rhode Islanders; and be it further
5 RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to
6 transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the staff of the Eleanor Slater
7 Hospital/Zambarano Unit.
