HOUSE RESOLUTION
EXPRESSING SINCERE CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF ANTONIO CAPRIO, JR.

1 WHEREAS, It is with deep sadness that this House has learned of the passing of Antonio
2 Caprio, Jr., the devoted father of Catherine Caprio Albanese and her husband, William, Anthony
3 Caprio and his wife, Michele, and Elaine Caprio. He was the former husband of the late
4 Bernadette Caprio and the long-time companion of the late Elaine Chase; and
5 WHEREAS, Born in Providence, "Tony" as he was fondly known, was the son of the late
6 Antonio and Filomena Caprio, and the brother of Providence Municipal Court Chief Judge, the
7 Honorable Frank Caprio, and Joseph W. Caprio, the producer of "Caught in Providence." He is
8 also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Michael Caprio, Mark Caprio, Andrew Brady and
9 Ashton Brady, and numerous nieces and nephews; and
10 WHEREAS, Mr. Caprio was a standout high school athlete and later played football
11 while serving in the United States Army where he was stationed in Germany during the Korean
12 War. Upon his return from the service, he earned a Bachelor's and later a Master's degree in
13 Special Education from Providence College; and
14 WHEREAS, Throughout his varied careers, Mr. Caprio always maintained a consistent
15 commitment "to the advancement of children through education." He worked as a teacher in the
16 Providence School Department, was the Executive Director of the John E. Fogarty Center for
17 children with developmental disabilities, served as the Director of the Neighborhood Youth
18 Corps, and was the Assistant Principal of Mount Pleasant High School and later Principal of
19 Hope High School. In addition, Mr. Caprio briefly served as a Providence Police Officer, where
20 he was decorated for heroism for saving the lives of two children; and
1 WHEREAS, Upon retirement, Mr. Caprio continued his community involvement as a
2 Post Commander and member of the VFW Post, as well as a panoply of additional altruistic
3 organizations, and was a devoted parishioner and choir member of Immaculate Conception
4 Church in Cranston; and
5 WHEREAS, At an early age, Mr. Caprio had learned the importance of loved ones and
6 the need to help others from his close-knit family. He reveled in telling stories about growing up
7 on Federal Hill and extended his compassion and generosity to all in need. He will be dearly
8 missed by his family, the neighborhood, and generations of young people whose life he enriched;
9 now, therefore be it
10 RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby
11 extends deepest condolences on the passing of Antonio Caprio, Jr.; and be it further
12 RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to
13 transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to the Honorable Frank Caprio, Joseph W. Caprio,
14 Catherine Caprio Albanese, Anthony Caprio, and Elaine Caprio.
