In the near future, I plan to introduce a resolution recognizing 18 November 2026 as National Injury Prevention Day in Pennsylvania.

Preventable injuries remain a major public health challenge across the Commonwealth and the nation. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, injury is the leading cause of death for Americans ages 1 through 44. In Pennsylvania, falls, poisonings, and motor vehicle crashes are among the leading causes of injury-related hospitalizations, affecting people of all ages and backgrounds.

Beyond the human impact, preventable injuries place significant burdens on healthcare systems, emergency medical services, employers, and families through medical expenses, lost productivity, rehabilitation needs, and long-term disability. Fortunately, many injuries can be prevented through education, community partnerships, safer environments, and effective public policy.

Trauma centers, hospitals, EMS providers, public health professionals, educators, first responders, and community organizations across Pennsylvania work every day to reduce injuries and save lives. Their efforts strengthen communities, improve quality of life, and help lower healthcare costs.

National Injury Prevention Day provides an opportunity to recognize these dedicated professionals while encouraging Pennsylvanians to take practical steps to prevent injuries at home, school, work, and in the community. Increased awareness and collaboration can help reduce preventable deaths and disabilities and build a safer, healthier Commonwealth.

Please join me in cosponsoring this resolution.
