In the near future, I will be introducing legislation to expand open enrollment in Pennsylvania public schools. This initiative will bolster educational opportunities for families across the Commonwealth by allowing students to enroll in any Pennsylvania public school, so long as there is space available in the child’s grade level.
Under this legislation, families would have greater flexibility to seek the educational environment that best fits their child’s needs—without being limited solely to the school district in which they reside. By expanding access within the public school system while respecting existing capacity constraints, this policy aims to create opportunities for Pennsylvania students and families across diverse communities.
This proposal is intended to better meet students’ and families’ needs, improving overall fit and strengthening family engagement in the educational process. It also recognizes that school districts must be able to accommodate enrollment responsibly; accordingly, open enrollment will only be available where the applicable grade level has open seats.
Please join me in supporting this effort to expand opportunity, improve educational outcomes, and ensure that Pennsylvania families have meaningful access to public school options throughout the Commonwealth.
