Bill White, a longtime resident of Bucks County, Pennsylvania, started his trailblazing baseball career with the Carolina League in the early 1950s, during which he significantly contributed to integration efforts within the minor league. He went on to play for several major league teams, including the Philadelphia Phillies, and received many accolades during his baseball career. Bill White later had a successful career in sports broadcasting, and his radio position with the New York Yankees made him the first Black play-by-play broadcaster for any MLB team. Following that, from 1989 to 1994, Bill White served not only as the first Black National League President, but also as the first former player to hold that office in 70 years.

On July 25, 2026, Bill White was awarded the National Baseball Hall of Fame’s Buck O’Neil Lifetime Achievement Award due to the impactful nature of his multi-faceted career. Bill White is the seventh recipient in the history of this award, which is presented no more than once every three years to an individual whose extraordinary qualities and contributions to the sport are in keeping with those of Buck O’Neil, the award’s first recipient.

In celebration of Bill White’s many achievements and recent receipt of the Buck O’Neil Lifetime Achievement Award, I am introducing a resolution to recognize October 21, 2026, as “Bill White Day” in Pennsylvania. By passing this resolution, we can ensure the Commonwealth pays tribute to Bill White, as well as all Pennsylvanians who helped make Major League Baseball what it is today.

Please join me in honoring Bill White’s contributions to baseball and the larger sports world by co-sponsoring this resolution to recognize October 21, 2026, as “Bill White Day” in Pennsylvania.
