Firefighters and EMS personnel put their lives at risk every day in this Commonwealth to ensure the safety of our friends, families and neighbors. It is only right that we make sure that their families are taken care of in the event that these brave men and women make the ultimate sacrifice and die in the line of duty.

As such, we will be introducing a bill to ensure that surviving family members of municipal firefighters and EMS personnel are provided comprehensive health insurance after they have ended their watch. These benefits will be available to the surviving spouse of the firefighter or EMS worker and any dependent children under the age of 26, regardless of whether the death occurred before the passage of this bill.

We are calling for our colleagues to stand with us and care for the loved ones of the heroes that gave their lives to protect their communities. Please join us in supporting this measure to grant peace of mind to our first responders and their families and honor their sacrifices.
