As the abilities and use of artificial intelligence (AI) grow, it is important to understand what impact it is having or will have on the workplace and hiring process. While labor market analyses show there is little impact of AI on the labor market currently, employees continue to have anxiety about the potential for job loss. Additionally, we are seeing the growing use of AI in the job hiring process.

Since this technology is so new, it is difficult to know if the Commonwealth is collecting the correct information to understand AI’s impact. It is essential that we stay ahead of any changes that may come from this rapidly evolving technology. This allows us to properly prepare for workforce changes and help set up Pennsylvanians for success in a rapidly evolving job market and workplace.

I will be introducing a resolution directing the Joint State Government Commission to evaluate whether Pennsylvania is collecting the correct data to evaluate the impact of AI on work. The report would also include recommendations for any new data we should begin collecting to be able to see the whole picture.

I urge you to join me in ensuring Pennsylvania is prepared for a changing work and hiring environment. We need to know if there are any data points we are missing to prepare for the future.
