While artificial intelligence is rapidly changing the education landscape, many educators and staff are still learning how these technologies work and how best to use them. Schools need the tools and resources necessary to navigate AI responsibly, especially as questions surrounding academic integrity, student privacy, cybersecurity, bias, and proper classroom use continue to grow.

In order to address our critical gap in AI in education, the House Education Committee will be considering multiple bills intended to establish necessary guardrails for AI use and provide educators with meaningful resources and guidance on this technology. My legislation would establish a grant program within the Pennsylvania Department of Education to help schools train educators on how to use AI effectively, responsibly, and ethically. Schools can use these grants to support professional development, AI literacy, lesson planning, privacy and cybersecurity training, and developing local AI policies.

Rather than requiring schools to adopt certain tools and resources, my legislation would give school leaders the resources and flexibility to make informed decisions about emerging technologies.

I respectfully invite you to co-sponsor this legislation to help ensure our schools are prepared to meet the opportunities and challenges presented by artificial intelligence.
