In the near future, we plan to introduce a resolution designating October 20, 2026, as "Domestic Violence Awareness Day" in honor of the 50th anniversary of the Pennsylvania Coalition Against Domestic Violence.

The Pennsylvania Coalition Against Domestic Violence was founded in 1976 and is the oldest statewide domestic violence coalition in the nation. It serves 90,000 victims and survivors in all 67 counties, reaching more than three million since 1976. 

The Coalition has launched national initiatives for data collection surrounding lethality prevention, while creating the Lethality Assessment Program to assist police officers in responding to intimate partner violence. The organization has also led efforts to establish the Family Violence Prevention and Services Act, the National Resource Center on Domestic Violence, and the Violence Against Women Act, as well as expand the Protection from Abuse Act..  

The Pennsylvania Coalition Against Domestic Violence, with support from the Commonwealth, has expanded to much more than grassroots advocacy, but continues work in housing, prevention, systems advocacy, and civil legal representation.

The Coalition has advocated for victims and survivors of domestic violence for the last 50 years and plans to continue this advocacy for many years to come.
