Medical providers protect us every day; we should be protecting them.

Under current Pennsylvania law, a medical provider practicing lawful health care in our Commonwealth may become subject to legal action in another state where that same care is prohibited. That state may then attempt to use Pennsylvania courts, law enforcement, licensing bodies, or other state resources to obtain information or otherwise facilitate those proceedings. As a result, the medical providers who work day and night to care for the people of Pennsylvania may be left vulnerable simply for providing health care that is lawful in our Commonwealth.

Our forthcoming bill would address this by protecting Pennsylvania medical providers, patients, and others involved in lawful health care from certain out-of-state investigations and legal actions. The legislation would restrict the use of Pennsylvania resources to assist with certain extradition proceedings, subpoenas, discovery requests, investigations, civil judgments, and professional disciplinary actions arising from health care that is lawful in Pennsylvania.

These protections would not prevent legitimate medical malpractice claims or shield providers from liability for negligence, gross negligence, or willful misconduct under Pennsylvania law.

Medical professionals should be able to provide the care and treatment they are legally permitted to provide in Pennsylvania without another state using our Commonwealth's resources to target them for doing so.
