We are introducing a resolution to recognize the month of September 2026 as Living Independence for the Elderly (LIFE) Month in Pennsylvania.

September is recognized as National Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) Month. In Pennsylvania, PACE is known as the Living Independence for the Elderly (LIFE) program. LIFE provides a model for integrating social supports and medical care while allowing older adults to remain at home and avoid a hospital admission or nursing home placement.

Pennsylvania was one of the first states to implement this comprehensive, all-inclusive managed care model in 1998 as an innovative and cost-effective way to provide more nursing home Medicaid eligible individuals with the opportunity to age in their homes and live independently in their communities as long as possible.

Today, Pennsylvania LIFE providers operate more than 50 LIFE centers across 54 of the Commonwealth's 67 counties, serving over 8,000 participants.
