In the near future, I plan to introduce a resolution designating September 2026 as “Life Insurance Awareness Month” in Pennsylvania.
 
For many families, life insurance is an important part of planning for the unexpected. It can help replace lost income, cover household expenses and outstanding debts, support a child’s education, and provide families with greater financial stability following the loss of a loved one. Approximately six million Pennsylvanians have life insurance coverage, with an average benefit of $148,000. In 2024 alone, approximately $11.7 billion in life insurance benefits were paid to beneficiaries in Pennsylvania.
 
Despite the important role life insurance can play in a family’s overall financial plan, many individuals remain uninsured or do not have enough coverage to meet their families’ needs. This gap can leave households particularly vulnerable when they have limited savings or other resources to fall back on after an unexpected loss.
 
Life Insurance Awareness Month is recognized each September as an opportunity to encourage individuals and families to consider their financial protection needs and better understand the role life insurance can play alongside savings, investments, retirement planning and other tools used to build long-term financial security.
 
My resolution will recognize September 2026 as “Life Insurance Awareness Month” in
Pennsylvania and encourage residents to review their financial circumstances, learn more about their coverage options and take appropriate steps to protect the financial well-being of themselves and their families.
