In the near future, we will introduce a resolution designating the week of September 21 through 25, 2026, as “Safe2Say Something Week” in Pennsylvania.
 
The Safe2Say Program was established by Act 44 of 2018, providing for methods of anonymous reporting concerning behavior perceived to be threatening to an individual or a school entity. The program began accepting reports on January 14, 2019, and continues to do so 24 hours per day, seven days per week and 365 days per year.
 
In accordance with Section 1307-D (a) of Act 44 of 2018, the Office of Attorney General released its annual report providing data for the previous 2025-2026 school year. Specifically, since the launch of the program in 2019, the tip line has received 205,290 tips; with 26,240 tips received in the 2025-2026 school year. This continues to increase each school year.
 
While initially intended to prevent threats against schools in this Commonwealth, the Safe2Say Something Program has highlighted a variety of behavior and mental health concerns in students. The top categories of tips include: bullying/cyber bullying; suicide/suicide ideation; cutting/self-harm; and drug distribution/possession. This year, we saw slight increases in tips related to Suicide/Suicidal Ideation and Cutting/Self-Harm, highlighting the ongoing mental health struggles many students continue to face.
 
In the 2025-2026 school year, Safe2Say Something training was provided to 1,704 schools, reaching a total of 417,490 students. Maintaining consistent student training and awareness initiatives remains an important component to ensure students recognize warning signs and how to report concerns before they escalate. Continued emphasis should be placed on annual student training and outreach to schools that have not recently participated in training.
 
The continued recovery of weapons as a result of Safe2Say Something tips demonstrate the program’s ongoing impact on school and community safety. This school year, information received contributed to the recovery of 23 weapons, bringing the total number of weapons recovered to 175 since the program’s launch.
 
We remain very proud of the success of the Safe2Say Something Program, now considered a national model to other states; and has demonstrated in a short period of time that it serves a vital need in our schools and in communities throughout the Commonwealth.
