Hispanic Americans, one of the fastest-growing minority ethnic groups in the country, deserve recognition for their multitude of achievements and rich culture which have contributed to our Commonwealth and Country. This is why I am introducing a resolution which designates September 15 through October 15 of 2026 as Hispanic Heritage Month in Pennsylvania.
National Hispanic Heritage Month has been enshrined in federal law since 1988 under President Ronald Reagan. In the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, this resolution has been introduced annually by both chambers to honor the more than 1 million Pennsylvanians who identify as Hispanic or Latino, the second largest ethnic minority in the Commonwealth.
For many years the Hispanic Community has and continues to make profound contributions to our Commonwealth including a deep commitment to family, faith, hard-work, and service. Hispanic Americans currently serve and have served our state an nation at the highest levels of all three branches of Government and make up approximately 17% of all active-duty military personnel. Their impact on culture, art, and cuisine in America is similarly immense and their presence has made Pennsylvania a better place to live for all of us.
This resolution allows Pennsylvanians to celebrate the rich diversity and culture which has positively impacted out Commonwealth and nation by proclaiming September 15th through October 15 as Hispanic Heritage Month in Pennsylvania.
