Dolly Parton was a singer, songwriter, and philanthropist whose music is well known for its powerful storytelling. She was the first in her family to graduate high school and used her personal experiences and empathy for others to write songs that continue to connect with many. Some of her most famous works became anthems for equality and acceptance, including “Coat of Many Colors,” “Family,” and “9-to-5.”

In addition, Dolly Parton used the money she earned during her career to help others. Due to the creation of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, thousands of children across Pennsylvania and the nation have access to a new book every month at no cost to their families. And through her donation of one million dollars to Vanderbilt University to develop the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine, her philanthropy helped save lives.

To recognize all that Dolly Parton stood for, I will be introducing a resolution to recognize September 25, 2026 (9/25) as “Dolly Parton Day” in Pennsylvania. Please join me in acknowledging the impact Dolly Parton’s music and life had on people throughout Pennsylvania and the United States.
