We will soon be introducing a resolution designating September 18, 2026, as “POW/MIA Recognition Day” in Pennsylvania.

More than 80,000 American service members remain missing from previous conflicts, leaving their loved ones to suffer from the unthinkable pain of not knowing what happened to those they cherish, and carrying a grief that has no closure.

In 1979, Congress established POW/MIA Recognition Day to honor those who were prisoners of war and who are still missing in action. Today, this day serves as a solemn reminder that there is still work to be done to bring these men and women home, and that we have a duty to allocate any resources available to achieve this goal.

On September 18, the POW/MIA flag which represents the heroism, sacrifice, reverence, and determination of these servicemen and women who will never be forgotten will fly over our capitol building here in Harrisburg. We encourage all Pennsylvanians to reflect on this important day, honoring the enduring sacrifice of those who were prisoners, and those who never returned.

We hope you will join us in co-sponsoring this resolution to help ensure that these brave men and women are never forgotten.
