In the near future, I plan to introduce a resolution recognizing the month of August 2026 as Appendix Cancer Awareness Month.

Appendix Cancer, also known as Appendiceal Cancer, is a rare but serious disease, affecting approximately 2 to 9 people per million each year in the United States. Appendix Cancer is genetically distinct from colorectal cancer, its incidence has been rising significantly in recent years, particularly among individuals under the age of 50.

Treatment for appendix cancer varies based on type and stage, and may include surgery, chemotherapy, and other therapies, underscoring the importance of early detection and increased awareness.

This resolution is supported by the Appendix Cancer PMP Research Foundation. The foundation started in 2008, works to fund research and education to improve the diagnosis and treatment of appendix cancer.

Please join me in recognizing August 2026 as Appendix Cancer Awareness Month. This resolution will urge all Pennsylvanians to be aware of this serious disease, take steps to promote early detection, and work towards a cure.
