For the millions of Americans who struggle with hair loss due to medical conditions such as alopecia, lupus, or from cancer treatment, it can be debilitating. It can interfere with self-image; cause anxiety and depression; and prohibit people from fully living their lives. Unfortunately, wigs made with human hair can cost over $3,000, making them difficult to afford for many people.

This is why I, along with Senator Santasiero, will be introducing legislation that would require insurers to provide at least $1,000 toward cranial prostheses, or wigs. It is our hope that by making wigs more affordable, those struggling with hair loss will be able to find a wig that brings them confidence and makes day-to-day life more manageable.
