In the near future, I will introduce a resolution designating September 2026, as “Childhood Cancer Awareness Month” in Pennsylvania. This resolution is substantially similar to those adopted in previous sessions, including most recently Senate Resolution 140, and continues our Commonwealth’s strong commitment to raising awareness and supporting families affected by pediatric cancer.
 
Too many families have endured that devastating moment when they hear that their child has been diagnosed with a form of cancer. Still, their strength is undeniable as their courageous children fight with remarkable resolve, determination, and often with a smile.
 
Even more inspiring is that, amid their own battles, these families continue to advocate for better treatments, expanded resources, and increased awareness, not just for their own child, but for every child yet to be diagnosed. Their resilience reminds us why our work together must never stop.
 
Over the past several years, Pennsylvania’s partnership with advocates, families, medical professionals, and research institutions has produced tens of millions of dollars in historic pediatric cancer research investments. These efforts have expanded vital programs that help children stay connected and supported throughout treatment. Together, we have brought more hope to families and strengthened Pennsylvania’s standing as a national leader in the fight against pediatric cancer.
 
This resolution honors the courageous children battling pediatric cancer and remembers those who have tragically passed. It recognizes the tireless efforts of advocates, especially parents who champion this cause for all children, and commends the medical and research communities whose dedication brings us closer to breakthroughs every year. It also highlights the progress Pennsylvania has made in confronting this devastating disease.
