Data center proliferation is the most salient issue in the state, region, and nation now and raises various concerns for those who live with its impacts, as these facilities can create significant primary and secondary costs.  That is why I am introducing legislation to require data centers to report the amount of water and electricity they use each year, establish and report on community benefits, and face significant sanctions if they do not comply.

The provisions in this bill mirror those added in HB2650 for qualification for the Data Center Sales Tax Exemption and will apply even if that credit is eliminated.

Since our state serves as a home for numerous data centers, it is critical that we know exactly what impact they are having on our communities. This measure will ensure that we better understand the consequences of the data centers operating in our state, regardless of any moratoriums or changes to the legal and permitting context of data center development.

Pennsylvania residents deserve to know exactly what resources are being used by the data centers that spring up in their own backyards. I ask that you help me to make sure that every Pennsylvanian has access to this information by co-sponsoring this important legislation.
