Sleep-related infant deaths remain one of the leading causes of death among infants, despite many of these tragedies being preventable through evidence-based safe sleep practices. According to the Pennsylvania Department of Health’s 2025 Child Death Review Annual Report, unsafe sleep factors were present in 86.8% of reviewed Sudden Unexpected Infant Death (SUID) cases, underscoring the continued need for public education and awareness.
To help promote evidence-based infant safe sleep practices and support ongoing public awareness efforts, I will be introducing a resolution designating October 2026 as “Infant Safe Sleep Month” in Pennsylvania. This resolution will encourage continued collaboration among the Pennsylvania Department of Health, health care providers, hospitals, and community organizations to educate parents and caregivers on creating safe sleep environments for infants.
Please join me in co-sponsoring this resolution.
