In the near future, I plan to introduce a resolution to designate September as Firefighter Appreciation Month in Pennsylvania.

Firefighters in our Commonwealth protect our communities every single day. They respond to every kind of emergency, from fires and medical crises to severe weather, vehicle accidents, rescues, hazardous materials incidents, and situations that most people will never see. Across the United States, firefighters answer millions of calls each year, and in Pennsylvania it is these brave men and women who step forward whenever lives and communities are at risk. Their work demands courage, skill, and a willingness to enter life threatening environments so others may survive.

September is a meaningful month for the fire service. Many departments use this time to connect with the public through safety education, community events, and volunteer recruitment. It is also the start of a season when emergency calls often increase. Designating this month recognizes the sacrifices firefighters make and the commitment they show to protecting every resident of this Commonwealth.  

Our firefighters give so much, and they deserve a moment in which the Commonwealth formally thanks them for their brave service.
