In the near future, we will introduce a resolution designating August 17, 2026 through August 23, 2026 as “Social Media Safety and Parental Awareness Week” in Pennsylvania.

This first-of-its-kind designation is designed to help parents, guardians and students better understand potential threats in the digital world, including sextortion, cyberbullying, AI-generated child sexual abuse material, grooming and other dangerous forms of abuse.

Tragically, in many communities throughout our Commonwealth and nation, we continue to hear of occurrences in which young people are faced with situations involving the dangers of social media and gaming platforms.

As we continue to build upon our legislative accomplishments of addressing online safety and crimes, it is imperative that we do all we can to help protect our young people in these situations.

Our intent with this resolution is to help remind young people and their loved ones of potential dangers online and help raise awareness of important guidelines to avoid potential threats in the digital world as we approach the upcoming 2026-2027 school year.

Please join us in co-sponsoring this important resolution.
