In the near future, I will be introducing a resolution commemorating December 7, 2026, as “Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day” in Pennsylvania – the 85th anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attack.

On December 7, 1941, the United States naval base at Pearl Harbor was attacked by Imperial Japan, resulting in more than 2,400 American deaths and over 1,100 wounded, including both service members and civilians. This event marked the beginning of America’s involvement in World War II and profoundly shaped the course of our both our nation’s and the world’s history.

Pennsylvania shares a direct historical connection to that day through the USS Pennsylvania, which was present at Pearl Harbor and sustained 29 casualties and 38 wounded aboard the ship during the attack. The courage shown by service members and the resilience of the citizens of Hawaii in the aftermath reflect the enduring strength and unity that define the Greatest Generation.

To honor the lives lost, recognize the sacrifices made, and to ensure that future generations understand the significance of this moment in American history, I hope you will join me in sponsoring this historic resolution.
