Pennsylvania’s gross receipts tax is a nearly 6% tax on utilities in Pennsylvania, which our constituents, our residents and small business owners have to pay.  With families struggling to keep up with inflation, we need to be exploring every avenue to provide relief to those in our districts who are struggling to make difficult financial decisions every single day.

Eliminating the gross receipts tax on energy bills is a simple solution to keep more money in the pockets of our constituents.  My legislation would take this important step and require that this change comes through for the benefit of our constituents purchasing service from the utilities, and not for the benefit of the utility companies themselves.

While more work must be done to address the overall structural issues causing increases in electric bills to prevent further hikes, addressing the gross receipts tax is a tangible, immediate step that this General Assembly can take to provide real relief to our constituents who pay for electric service all across the Commonwealth.
