Medicolegal death investigation professionals are a vital component of public health, community safety, and law enforcement in Pennsylvania, often referred to with appreciation and unironically as out “Last Responders.” This specialized workforce is responsible for investigating cases of unexpected, unexplained, sudden, violent, and suspicious death and collaborating with local, state, and federal agencies to ensure public safety.

To honor the important work of medicolegal death investigation professionals, I plan to introduce a resolution recognizing January 24-30, 2027 as Medicolegal Death Investigation Professionals Week in Pennsylvania.

The loss of a loved one is traumatic and overwhelming for families looking for answers. While often emotionally and physically demanding, the work of medicolegal death investigation professionals is compassionate and comprehensive to ensure justice for victims and families. These professionals are ultimately advocating for decedents who can no longer speak for themselves.

Please join me in co-sponsoring this important resolution to acknowledge the contributions of medicolegal death investigation professionals to public health and safety throughout Pennsylvania.
