World Music Day, also known as F te de la Musique or Make Music Day, is an annual international celebration of music held every year on June 21, the summer solstice. Established in France in 1982, the event encourages musicians of all ages and skill levels to perform free public concerts in streets, parks, libraries, community centers, and other public spaces.

Now celebrated in more than 100 countries, World Music Day promotes cultural diversity, artistic expression, community engagement, and greater accessibility to the arts. It also provides opportunities to support local musicians, arts organizations, and small businesses while bringing residents together through the universal language of music.

Communities across Pennsylvania, including West Chester in the 19th Senatorial District, have embraced World Music Day as a way to showcase local talent, activate public spaces, encourage foot traffic in downtown areas, and foster community pride.

By recognizing World Music Day, the Commonwealth can celebrate the important role music plays in enriching our communities and strengthening connections among Pennsylvanians.

Please join me in sponsoring this resolution recognizing June 21, 2026, as World Music Day in Pennsylvania.
