In recent years, the FDA has approved a new class of disease-modifying therapies that can slow the progression of Alzheimer's disease. These treatments represent a significant breakthrough after decades of failed clinical trials and offer hope to the more than 280,000 Pennsylvanians currently living with Alzheimer's and related dementias, as well as their families and caregivers.

However, access to these treatments remains inconsistent. Insurers vary widely in their coverage policies, with some imposing step therapy requirements that delay treatment during the narrow window when these medications are most effective. For a progressive disease like Alzheimer's, any delay means irreversible cognitive decline.

For this reason, we plan to introduce legislation that ensures Pennsylvanians living with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias have access to the treatments they need when they need them. Our legislation will require health insurers in Pennsylvania to cover FDA-approved treatments prescribed to slow the progression of Alzheimer's disease and medically-necessary diagnostic testing needed to identify patients who may benefit from these treatments.

Timely access to disease-modifying treatment could mean more years and better quality of life for patients, along with easing the burden of their loved ones and caregivers.
Please join us in sponsoring this legislation, which ensures that Pennsylvanians facing an Alzheimer's diagnosis have hope and a fighting chance to slow the disease's progression.
