The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention note that breastmilk is the best source of nutrients for most babies, providing antibodies and reducing the risk of serious illnesses and chronic conditions among infants. Breastfeeding is also very beneficial for mothers, as it reduces the risk of certain cancers, diabetes, and high blood pressure. Some parents may experience challenges with breastfeeding, such as latching problems or milk supply issues, and may benefit from lactation support or assistance from their child’s pediatrician.

To ensure that everyone in our Commonwealth is aware of the importance of breastfeeding, we plan to introduce a resolution designating August 2026 as National Breastfeeding Month.  Our resolution will highlight the benefits of breastfeeding and encourage meaningful support for families on their breastfeeding journeys.

Please consider joining us in co-sponsoring this resolution to raise awareness about the benefits of breastfeeding.
