In the near future, I will be introducing legislation ensuring that our Commonwealth’s schools have continued access to an important staffing option they have been utilizing over the past 5 years.

Classroom monitor permits enable individuals to deliver student assignments preplanned by a professional or temporary professional employee. Individuals may not plan or create lessons or grade student work with a classroom monitor permit; however, individuals with the permit offer another way for schools to monitor and staff classrooms when in difficult or emergency situations.

Recently, PDE issued a report on classroom monitor permits, and stated, “While the permits are not designed to be a permanent solution to shortages in classroom personnel, evidence suggests that the permits should continue as they have been a viable solution for those counties/districts with teacher shortages.”

The statute authorizing classroom monitor permits is set to expire on June 30, 2026.

My legislation is simple – it removes the expiration provision, allowing for schools to continue having this option available to them as a tool in the toolbox for staffing.

Please join me in sponsoring this legislation.
