Under current Pennsylvania law, when a parent earns income through avenues such as rideshare and delivery services, that new source of income is not always reported for child support purposes. In matters of child support, the exclusion of this additional income can be significant in maintaining a child’s well-being. Due to paperwork and classification complications, this ambiguity exists.
For this reason, I will be introducing legislation that will close this loophole. By requiring individuals that receive IRS form 1099-K or 1099 NEC to report this additional income, the Pennsylvania Domestic Relations Sections (DRS) can establish more support orders and increase collections by identifying income that may have previously gone unreported to DRS. Numerous states have already made this change to new hire reporting, including our neighbors in Delaware, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, and West Virginia.
Please join me in co-sponsoring this important legislation that ensures that all children receive the financial support they need and deserve.
