In the near future, I plan to introduce a resolution recognizing the week of June 22-28, 2026, as “Amateur Radio Week” in Pennsylvania.

Amateur radio operators, commonly known as “Hams,” have provided public service communications for more than a century and continue to play an important role in emergency preparedness and community support throughout the Commonwealth. Pennsylvania is home to more than 23,000 licensed amateur radio operators who assist with charitable events, emergency response coordination, and severe weather monitoring.

This resolution also recognizes the important contributions of Amateur Radio Emergency Services (ARES), Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Services (RACES), and SKYWARN volunteers who provide communications support and weather spotting services during emergencies and public events. These services are provided on a voluntary and uncompensated basis.

In addition, the resolution recognizes the annual Amateur Radio Field Day exercise organized by the Amateur Radio Relay League (ARRL), which will take place June 27-28, 2026. This event serves as a nationwide emergency preparedness exercise demonstrating the ability of amateur radio operators to provide communications support without reliance on traditional infrastructure.

Please join me in co-sponsoring this resolution recognizing the service and contributions of amateur radio operators across Pennsylvania.
