As energy prices climb and utility bills make up a growing share of household budgets, Pennsylvanians deserve clear, accessible information about proposed rate hikes. Yet today, information on utility rate increases is scattered across the Public Utility Commission’s website and are difficult for the average person to track.

To address this issue, I plan to introduce a companion to
Senator Brooks's SB1254, which would require the PUC to create a user-friendly, searchable online database containing information on all utility rates under the commission’s jurisdiction, including every request for a rate increase.

Families struggling to pay their bills should not have to dig through regulatory filings to find out when rates increased or by how much. This online public record will bring greater transparency and accountability to the ratemaking process and give consumers another tool to stay informed.

I hope you will join me in co-sponsoring this common-sense transparency legislation.
