In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation requiring individuals convicted of homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence to provide monetary restitution in the form of financial support for the minor children or dependents of a parent or legal guardian killed as a result of their actions.

Similar legislation has already been enacted in states such as Kentucky, Tennessee, and Texas, and comparable measures have been introduced in more than a dozen other states.

This legislation seeks to ensure that children who lose a parent or guardian because of a preventable tragedy receive meaningful financial support from the individual responsible for that loss.
