Soon, we will be introducing a resolution to designate June 15, 2026, as World Elder Abuse Awareness Day in Pennsylvania.

Every older adult deserves to feel safe and free from abuse. Elder abuse and neglect can affect anyone, making it essential that we protect the dignity and well-being of all older adults.

According to the most recent Older Adult Protective Services Annual Report published by the PA Department of Aging, statewide reports of elder abuse totaled over 66,000 in fiscal year 2024-2025, reflecting a 14% increase over last year. Over 15,700 investigations were substantiated and there were 154 suspicious death reports. The top three types of abuse substantiated included self-neglect, caregiver neglect and financial exploitation, respectively.

By designating June 15, 2026, as World Elder Abuse Awareness Day in PA, we can call attention to the occurrence of elder abuse and acknowledge the importance of preserving the health, safety and welfare of older adults.

Please join us in sponsoring this important resolution.
